Top blockchains by transaction volume in 2025: Solana leads by a wide margin

As of 2 January 2026, the blockchain platform Solana topped the charts with 121 billion transactions in 2025, maintaining a very low average fee of just $0.005. Following Solana are BNB Chain with 5.6 billion transactions and Tron with 4.6 billion, although both have significantly higher fees, notably Tron's average fee exceeding $1100.

Other popular blockchains like Near Protocol, Aptos, Stellar, and Polygon handled between 1.1 and 1.9 billion transactions, all with relatively low average fees, highlighting the growth of efficient alternatives to Ethereum. Ethereum ranked 11th with 524 million transactions and an average fee of $7, indicating ongoing challenges due to high operating costs.

The continued success of these networks will depend on their ability to reduce fees and increase throughput, making scalability and cost-efficiency key factors for maintaining market leadership in 2026.
