Central Banks Cut Rates as Global Inflation Cools

Central banks worldwide have begun lowering borrowing costs as global inflation eases from the multi-decade highs reached in recent years. The decline in price pressures has allowed regulators to soften monetary policy and support economic activity.

According to FT’s interactive tracker, inflation growth rates have dropped sharply in most countries, while aggressive rate hikes in 2022–2023 successfully curbed the surge. However, experts warn that reaching the 2% inflation target will be the hardest part of the journey.

Analysts note that despite falling energy costs and easing price pressures, risks remain. High mortgage rates have already cooled housing markets, and future central bank decisions will hinge on the pace of global economic recovery.
