Ukrainians have more than 1.7 trillion hryvnia in banks
As of June 1, 2026, the total amount of deposits held by individuals and sole proprietors in Ukrainian banks exceeded 1.7 trillion UAH. Over the course of the month, the volume of deposits increased by 13.3 billion UAH, with changes occurring in the currency breakdown.
Compared to the same period in 2025, the total volume of savings increased by nearly 260 billion UAH.
According to the Deposit Guarantee Fund, the currency composition of deposits at the start of summer shows that previous trends have continued. Of the total amount of funds as of early June, deposits in the national currency amounted to over 1.12 trillion UAH, showing an increase of 13.6 billion UAH in May 2026. At the same time, the volume of foreign-currency deposits decreased by 0.3 billion UAH over the month, totaling 583.2 billion UAH.
Individual entrepreneurs account for 3.2% of the total number of depositors. Their share of total savings rose to 11.6%, which amounts to 197.6 billion UAH. All deposits held by individual entrepreneurs are covered by official guarantees from the Deposit Guarantee Fund for Individuals.
The distribution of citizens’ savings among Fund participants, based on the banks’ ownership structure, is as follows:
- banks with state ownership account for the largest share of the market, at 60.03% of all deposits;
- banks with private capital rank second, having attracted 22.36% of funds;
- financial institutions belonging to foreign banking groups account for the smallest share, at 17.61%.

Previously, PrivatBank was included in the list of entities subject to privatization in 2018–2020.
It was later announced that the nationalized PrivatBank might not be ready for privatization until at least 2022.
