Jehovah’s Witnesses have partially eased their longstanding ban on the medical use of donated blood. Members of the religious organization may now receive products derived from blood donated by other people. At the same time, the ban on whole-blood transfusions remains in force.

New policy

As STAT News reports, the new policy was announced on Friday. This is the second change this year to one of the organization’s most controversial and distinctive doctrinal provisions. The decision concerns the medical use of blood donated by other people.
