Ghana prepares a 400-bed mother-and-child block — MyJoyOnline
At Ghana's Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, site preparation has begun for the construction and equipping of a modern 400-bed mother-and-child block. Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the minister of government communications, announced the start of the work, MyJoyOnline reports.
According to the official, the new block is intended to replace the hospital's current maternity unit. He also stated that the project is part of President John Dramani Mahama's renewed investment in major healthcare infrastructure.
Departments and operating theatres
The new block is planned to include specialized obstetrics and gynecology departments, delivery rooms, operating theatres, neonatal intensive care units, high-dependency units and intensive care units.

The medical facility will also include a center for in vitro fertilization and assisted reproductive technologies, antenatal and postnatal clinics, fertility and reproductive health clinics, breastfeeding support and family planning units, as well as an emergency obstetric care department.
Diagnostics and training
According to Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the project will also include diagnostic imaging units, a laboratory and blood bank, a pharmacy, a central sterilization department, and physiotherapy and rehabilitation services. The block is to have facilities for training, research and conferences.
