Polio vaccination campaign for 10 million children launches in Pakistan’s Punjab — Dawn
On September 21, a special polio vaccination campaign for children began in Rawalpindi, Pakistan, covering all or part of 13 districts in Punjab province. In Rawalpindi district itself, nearly one million children under the age of five are planned to be vaccinated.
More than 8,000 workers are involved in the campaign in Rawalpindi. As Dawn reports, children will be vaccinated during door-to-door visits, in hospitals and at transit points.
Focus on mobile families
Ehsan Ghani, chief executive officer of the Rawalpindi District Health Authority, said the priority is to ensure access to vaccination for every child under the age of five. Special attention will be given to high-risk areas and locations with significant population movement.

According to him, travel and the temporary relocation of families complicate children’s uninterrupted access to vaccinations. To address this, mobile, fixed and transit teams have been deployed in the district. They are also tasked with identifying children who were not at home during visits and vaccinating them before the campaign ends.
Scale of the campaign in Punjab
Overall, the vaccination campaign in Punjab is intended for more than 10 million children. A total of 39,774 mobile, fixed and transit teams are taking part.
The campaign in Rawalpindi will run from September 21 to 27. In Lahore, vaccination activities will also be conducted for seven days, until September 27, while in other covered districts they will last four days.
