In the United States, 65% of respondents who identified themselves as conservatives supported the goal of achieving health equity when the question was asked without defining the term. Phillip Alberti of the Center for Health Equity at the Association of American Medical Colleges reported the survey results during a National Academies of Sciences discussion.

As STAT News reports, most adult Americans support efforts to achieve health equity, although the level of support depended somewhat on the wording of the question. Alberti noted that differences in the views of various groups may be smaller than they are often portrayed.

Trust in medical institutions

The Association of American Medical Colleges is expected to release additional data in the coming weeks on changes in trust in medical institutions. The discussion also addressed how the way scientific research is communicated affects public trust in science.

Separately, the publication mentioned a lawsuit by researchers against the US National Institutes of Health over the screening of grant applications for specific keywords.

New composition of the preventive services task force

US Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. appointed eight new members to the US Preventive Services Task Force. This body determines which preventive measures insurance companies must cover.

The task force's new composition consists of specialists rather than general practitioners. The American Medical Association called this a significant departure from the traditional principle for forming the task force. One expert noted that specialists usually do not serve on it because of possible conflicts of interest; the page for disclosing the relevant declarations is being updated.

At the Children's Health Defense conference in Washington, Kennedy, who is the founder of this organization, spent more than 20 minutes expressing doubts about vaccines. According to him, the public has no idea about the risk profile of vaccinations administered to tens of millions of people.
