Google expands Gemini platform with tools for lawyers

Google has expanded its Gemini enterprise artificial intelligence platform with new tools for lawyers and law firms. The company introduced Gemini Enterprise for Legal, which, it said, is intended to help firms perform routine and complex tasks so that lawyers can focus on higher-value services. Google also said it provides protection and confidentiality for user data.

Integrations and AI agents

As Channel NewsAsia reports, citing Reuters, the new plugin for Gemini Enterprise integrates with legal software and data platforms. Google said it also includes AI agents capable of performing specialized legal and administrative functions without significant human oversight.

According to the company, the platform will have a direct and secure connection to the technology platforms of Thomson Reuters, legal AI developer Harvey, LexisNexis and other providers. Google Cloud Chief Product Officer Amrita Mahrok said law firms will be able to choose among artificial intelligence models embedded in the platform.

Competition in the legal market

Law firms are increasingly using generative AI for legal research, drafting litigation documents and other legal tasks. The technology is also used in operations, including client and case management. According to Deloitte's 2026 report, firms are investing heavily in AI, although the industry's transformation is still at an early stage.

Google said it collaborated with Weil Gotshal, Cleary Gottlieb, Freshfields and Williams & Connolly on Gemini Enterprise for Legal. Google's competitors in the legal AI solutions market include Anthropic and Thomson Reuters. Thomson Reuters, which owns Reuters and the Westlaw legal research database, on Monday introduced its own large language model, Thomson 1.0, trained on the company's legal content for professional work.
