In Australia, Victoria Police conducted about 40 welfare checks after an outage at telecommunications company Optus. Due to the disruptions, some subscribers had difficulty connecting to emergency services, ABC News Australia reports.
Problems with calls to Triple Zero
Triple Zero Victoria Chief Operating Officer Paul Santamaria said Optus provided data on about 40 calls during which there were difficulties connecting to the national emergency call operator Triple Zero (000), operated by Telstra.
According to him, Victoria Police liaison officers working at Triple Zero Victoria communication centres conducted checks on people whose calls were affected by the disruptions.

The outage lasted about 75 minutes
An Optus spokesperson said the issue affected voice services for some customers and lasted about one hour and 15 minutes. Intermittent call dropouts were recorded in Victoria, South Australia, Tasmania and the Northern Territory.
According to the company, the fault became known at 13:30, and technical teams were engaged to restore services. Optus said the issue was resolved at about 15:00.
Information on 41 calls was referred to Victoria Police for checks. Police said they completed about 40 checks and recorded no adverse outcomes or other significant incidents.
