Three fibre-optic line cuts disrupt telecom networks in Ghana — MyJoyOnline
Simultaneous cuts on three fibre-optic routes in Ghana caused disruptions to telecommunications services in five northern regions of the country and part of the Oti Region. This was reported by Minister of Communications, Digital Technology and Innovations Samuel Nartey George, according to MyJoyOnline.
Damaged routes
According to the minister, cuts on the MTN section of the Kintampo—Buipe route were recorded at 04:19 GMT. Another cut occurred on the Telecel section of the Wakawaka—Bamboi route at 11:36. The Hohoe—Jasikan route, for which Ghana’s National Information Technology Agency (NITA) is responsible, was also affected; this was recorded at 11:25 GMT.

Scale of disruptions
According to the minister, the incidents made services unavailable or significantly degraded at 694 2G and 3G network sites, as well as 521 4G sites.
Teams from MTN Ghana, Telecel Ghana and NITA were deployed to establish the causes of the cuts and restore services. Samuel Nartey George said technical specialists were working under the supervision of Ghana’s National Communications Authority and, in his assessment, were expected to begin restoring services within a few hours. The minister apologized to customers and residents of the affected regions for the inconvenience.
