A subsidiary of Ukrzaliznytsia is launching a freight route to France
UZ Cargo Poland, a subsidiary of Ukrzaliznytsia, has officially expanded its range of international logistics services by launching regular freight service between France and Ukraine. This move is part of the Ukrainian rail operator’s strategy to strengthen its presence in the European market and create flexible transport chains between Ukraine and Western European countries.
This is stated in the company’s official press release.
The inaugural shipment on the new rail route was a consignment of passenger buses intended for urban transport. These vehicles are being transferred to the Kyiv region as free humanitarian aid from the Paris City Hall to restore municipal fleets damaged by hostilities. This large-scale logistics project was successfully implemented thanks to the joint coordination of divisions of Ukrzaliznytsia, the Liski Transport Service Center, as well as foreign partners—the logistics companies FORWARDIS and PKP LHS.
The intermodal delivery route was designed to pass through the territories of four countries—France, Germany, Poland, and Ukraine. A key feature of the process is the need to overcome differences in rail gauge widths. A special train carrying humanitarian cargo travels via the European railway network to the Polish terminal in Zamość Bortatyce, where the buses are quickly transferred to special broad-gauge platforms with a standard track width of 1,520 millimeters. After completing customs and technical procedures in Poland, the rolling stock proceeds directly to its final destination at the Kyiv-Liski terminal.
