Real Estate Expert Roksolana Pyrtko on How Solar Energy Is Transforming Architecture in the UAE

In the United Arab Emirates, sustainable architecture is rapidly becoming a reality. According to Roksolana Pyrtko, a commercial real estate expert, solar energy has become the foundation of a new urban environment where technology serves not as a marketing tool but as a means of practical efficiency.

“For the UAE, energy efficiency is not a trend — it’s a matter of survival,” says Roksolana Pyrtko. “When temperatures exceed 45 degrees and water resources are limited, renewable energy becomes the key to stability and comfort.”

Today, Dubai and Abu Dhabi are actively integrating solar technologies into water desalination systems, housing infrastructure, and architectural design. The Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, one of the largest projects of its kind in the world, already supplies energy to millions of residents. Meanwhile, the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) plans to achieve 100% water desalination using clean energy and waste heat by 2030.

Pyrtko emphasizes that combining solar generation with membrane technologies significantly reduces the cost of water purification while making the system more stable and accessible for new districts. “We can see a completely new approach to development emerging in the desert — every square meter is designed with climate realities and technological possibilities in mind.”

This approach is shaping a new standard of urban development in the UAE — an architecture that is not only visually impressive but also self-sufficient, resource-efficient, and resilient to climate change.
