LG chairman calls for faster action in AI race — Korea Herald
LG Group Chairman Koo Kwang-mo in South Korea urged the conglomerate’s top executives to implement investment plans in artificial intelligence more quickly. The Korea Herald reports this following a strategic meeting in Icheon.
According to LG, Koo said that artificial intelligence can no longer be viewed as an area the company pursues selectively. He called AI a key component of the group’s future competitiveness and stressed that executives must act quickly and consistently so that LG can compete in key AI markets.
Strategic meeting in Icheon
About 40 executives from the group’s core companies took part in the eight-hour meeting at LG Academy, including LG Electronics, LG Display, LG Innotek, LG Chem, LG Energy Solution and LG Uplus. The meeting was Koo’s third session with the heads of the group’s companies since the beginning of the year; the previous ones were held in March and June.
Participants reviewed the results and investment plans in strategic areas, including AI factories, physical AI, semiconductor materials and substrates, as well as company-wide transformation using AI.

Investment strategy
Executives agreed that investment decisions must be based on clearly defined goals and a portfolio strategy. LG also intends to strengthen scenario planning and review procedures to respond better to changes in markets, the competitive environment and technology.
Meeting participants stressed the need to identify investment opportunities in advance and focus resources on areas of the greatest strategic importance. They also reaffirmed LG’s human-centered approach to AI: the strategy should focus not on technology itself, but on tangible improvements in people’s lives.
In April, Koo visited Silicon Valley, where he met with executives from Palantir Technologies and physical AI startup Skild AI. LG Technology Ventures, the company’s corporate venture unit, invested in Skild AI.
