A co-founder of Nova Poshta warned of the consequences of taxing packages
Volodymyr Popereshnyuk criticized the possible introduction of VAT on international packages valued at up to 150 euros. According to him, this could increase the burden on customs, slow down delivery, and negatively impact Ukrainians, the retail sector, and logistics.
“The government has managed to push through this tax, which is harmful to the economy. I sympathize with everyone, because practically everyone will be affected by the taxation of packages,” Popereshnyuk noted.
He predicts that the cost of parcels and delivery times will increase, causing Ukrainians to spend more money, since there are no alternatives to imported goods. The Ukrainian retail sector, which is already struggling due to the impact on warehouses, will also suffer, as consumers will have less money left for purchases.
In addition, Popereshnyuk warns that customs could collapse due to a ten- or even hundred-fold increase in workload. This will affect not only postal operators but also all carriers, which, according to the businessman, will inevitably lead to an increase in smuggling.
The co-owner of “Nova Poshta” expressed the view that the state always seeks to expand control and raise taxes, but every new tax hinders the country’s economic development, well-being, and defense capabilities.
As a reminder, the Verkhovna Rada will grant an exemption from taxation for parcels containing goods for the military.
People’s Deputies Lesya Zaburanna and Oleksandr Kovalchuk of the “Servant of the People” faction proposed that the Verkhovna Rada establish a Temporary Investigative Commission to investigate possible violations of legislation regarding public safety during martial law.
The day before, the Verkhovna Rada received nominations from President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to appoint Yevhen Khmara as Minister of Defense of Ukraine and Andriy Sybiga as Minister of Foreign Affairs.
