China helped Zimbabwe grow $1.2 billion worth of tobacco
By the end of 2025, Zimbabwe produced a record 352,700 tonnes of tobacco valued at $1.2 billion. This achievement was made possible with the support of Chinese companies and agronomists.
The assistance involved supplying seeds, fertilizers, technology, and financing, enabling Zimbabwe to boost its tobacco output and exports despite its debt challenges.
Tobacco remains a vital source of foreign currency for Zimbabwe, with China as its largest buyer.
