China imposes sanctions on 20 US defense companies over arms sales to Taiwan

China has officially sanctioned 20 American defense companies in response to their arms sales to Taiwan, which Beijing considers serious interference in China’s internal affairs and a violation of the “one-China” principle. The sanctions took effect on December 26, freezing all assets these companies hold in China and prohibiting Chinese organisations and individuals from conducting any transactions with them.

Among the companies affected are well-known firms such as Northrop Grumman Systems Corporation, L3Harris Maritime Services, Boeing in St. Louis, as well as Teal Drones, Blue Force Technologies, Dive Technologies, Vantor, and others. Additionally, sanctions extend to 10 executives of these firms whose assets will be frozen and who are banned from entering China, including Hong Kong and Macau.

These measures highlight escalating tensions between the US and China amid the sensitive situation around Taiwan. The sanctions are expected to impact the companies’ operations in China and may also serve as a warning to other business entities about the risks of cooperation in the region.
