Lenovo CEO donates 200 million yuan to Shanghai Jiao Tong University

Chairman and CEO of Lenovo, Yan Yuánqīng, announced a personal donation of 200 million yuan (approximately 29 million US dollars) to Shanghai Jiao Tong University. This contribution will fund the renovation of an academic building that will become a centre for artificial intelligence research and specialist training. The donation marks the university’s 130th anniversary and is the third by Yan in support of his alma mater.

In addition to his personal gift, Lenovo plans to invest an additional 300 million yuan (about 44 million US dollars) over five years in joint developments with the university. These investments target large language models, intelligent infrastructure, and smart services, signifying a close partnership in advancing cutting-edge technologies.

Lenovo also intends to foster close collaboration with the university in AI, medicine, and new energy sectors, broadening the scope of their cooperation and strengthening ties between the corporation and academic institutions.
