U.S. Congress Opens Probe Into Uber Over Sexual Assault

The U.S. House of Representatives has launched an official investigation into Uber after journalists revealed that incidents of sexual harassment and assault during rides were far more frequent than the company had disclosed. Between 2017 and 2022, over 400,000 sexual incidents linked to Uber rides were reported across the United States.

The probe was initiated by Congresswoman Nancy Mace, who sent a letter to Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi. She emphasized that the scale of the problem poses a serious safety threat to passengers and called for stronger tools to protect riders from sexual misconduct and assault.
Uber is currently facing more than 3,000 lawsuits in federal and state courts across the U.S. The company is accused of concealing the true scope of the problem and delaying the implementation of effective safety measures despite earlier promises and internal research.
