A Canadian expert has been appointed to head the Supervisory Board of Naftogaz of Ukraine

Effective March 12, 2026, Duncan James Nightingale became the new chairman of the supervisory board of Ukraine’s largest state-owned energy company. He has over 30 years of experience in the oil and gas industry, specializing in operational management of production and strategic asset development.

This was reported by the industry publication ExPro.

Nightingale is already well acquainted with the Ukrainian energy market, having previously chaired the supervisory board of PJSC Ukrnafta.

The appointment of this experienced foreign specialist comes amid ongoing reforms of the corporate governance system in the public sector. In addition to his experience in Ukraine, Nightingale has held executive positions at international companies, including serving as chairman of the board at Blacksteel Energy Inc. and as senior advisor to the CEO of Octavia Energy. While Russia continues its attacks on gas transmission system facilities, the reinforcement of Naftogaz’s management with international experts is aimed at ensuring the company’s energy resilience and transparency.

It is expected that under the leadership of the Canadian expert, the supervisory board will focus on increasing domestic gas production and attracting investments to modernize infrastructure. The oil and gas sector remains critical to national security, so strengthening operational management (upstream) is one of the top priorities for the new board chair. This decision will also facilitate the further integration of the Ukrainian energy market with the European market and the fulfillment of commitments to international partners.

The Naftogaz Group has finally won a lawsuit against Russia’s Gazprom for over $1.4 billion.

Serhiy Koretskyi, head of Naftogaz, stated that the rapid rise in fuel prices affects not only Ukraine but the entire world. He also refuted rumors that gasoline prices in Ukraine had risen by 10 hryvnias, noting that the price increase is in line with global trends in the oil and fuel market.
