Members of Parliament voted to eliminate subsidies for the energy sector

Members of Parliament supported the government's decision to abolish preferential gas prices for private electricity producers and to end subsidies for them.

This was reported by Mind.

According to members of the relevant committee, some businesses were making excessive profits thanks to cheap gas from the state and guaranteed electricity purchases.

In particular, investments in cogeneration plants paid for themselves in 2–3 years, after which companies continued to benefit from the preferential rates.

Lawmakers emphasized that continued subsidization of such producers causes losses for Naftogaz and distorts the market.

The article also notes that amid Russian attacks, Ukraine is losing its own gas production and is forced to increase imports.

To get through the 2025–2026 heating season, Naftogaz has already purchased over 7 billion cubic meters of gas for approximately 190 billion hryvnias.

Ukraine will change the format and content of gas bills and distribution to make them more informative and user-friendly.
