Uklon has begun testing remote vehicle control

The IT services company Uklon has launched Ukraine’s first pilot test of remote vehicle control technology, which is a necessary step toward the future implementation of autonomous vehicles and the launch of robotaxis.

This was reported by the company’s press service.

The research platform has been deployed at Boryspil International Airport, which is a partner in the project. The main goal of the initiative is to study the operation of remote-controlled vehicles in various conditions, as well as to establish the regulatory framework for legalizing autonomous transport in the country.

The remote driving technology is based on developments by the Estonian company Elmo, which is already certified in Europe. Thanks to special software, sensors, cameras, lidar, and mobile connectivity, a driver can control the vehicle in real time via a remote station. The first phase of testing involved the service’s partner drivers, including a wheelchair-bound war veteran. This technological solution opens up significant opportunities for inclusion, particularly for people with lower limb amputations, as it allows them to drive a car using manual controls.

A presentation of the project for government officials and the media took place on May 27. Acting Minister of Digital Transformation Oleksandr Bornyakov emphasized that the adaptation of autonomous technologies is a practical step within the implementation of Ukraine’s WINWIN Digital Innovation Development Strategy through 2030. Currently, Uklon operates in 27 cities across Ukraine, at the Bukovel resort, and in Tashkent (Uzbekistan). As a reminder, in April 2025, the company was acquired by Kyivstar JSC, a member of the VEON Group.

The first driverless taxis may soon appear in Poland, as the country is officially changing the rules for testing autonomous vehicles in real-world urban conditions.
