The head of the NBU raised the possibility of privatizing PrivatBank and Oschadbank

Andriy Pyshnyy, Governor of the National Bank of Ukraine, is open to the privatization of the state-owned PrivatBank and Oschadbank, noting that each of these banks has already made some progress and attracted interest from investors such as the EBRD and the IFC. At the same time, the NBU head believes that such decisions should be made exclusively within the framework of a comprehensive strategy for the development of the state-owned banking sector.

He made this statement at a briefing, clarifying that the National Bank will participate in the discussion but will not be the one drafting the document itself.

This strategic document is to be prepared by the end of June, after which it will be subject to broad discussion. According to Pyshny, the strategy must clearly define the specific areas of operation for financial institutions, key performance indicators, prospects for privatization, and the alignment of these plans with the overall development of the stock market. The head of the regulator emphasized the importance of consolidating all existing plans into a comprehensive strategic vision.

Previously, PrivatBank was included in the list of entities subject to privatization in 2018–2020.

It was later announced that the nationalized PrivatBank might not be ready for privatization until at least 2022.
