Olive Africa Partners Fashions to control GTP and Woodin in Ghana

In Ghana, Olive Africa Partners Fashions, led by private equity specialist Kofi Kwakwa, has acquired TexStyles Ghana. Under the new ownership structure, it will control the company and the GTP and Woodin brands, MyJoyOnline reports.

GTP has been present on Ghana’s textile market since 1966. Woodin has become one of the country’s most recognizable textile, fashion and lifestyle brands. For decades, both brands have been associated with Ghanaian fashion, culture and ceremonial clothing.

Investment in existing companies

The deal has drawn attention to a model in which African investors acquire, restructure and develop companies with already established brands, distribution networks, employees and customer bases. This approach differs from creating new businesses from scratch and involves raising capital, strengthening corporate governance and strategic management.

The article notes that keeping established enterprises under African ownership may make it possible to retain a larger share of the economic value created by their growth on the continent. Such deals also give local fund managers an opportunity to demonstrate their ability to carry out complex acquisitions and develop businesses over the long term.

Industry assessment

Amma Gyampo, chief executive officer of the Ghana Venture Capital and Private Equity Association, said the deal demonstrates the technical expertise of local private equity fund managers in reviving and scaling established assets. According to her, the success of such investments depends on proper corporate governance, the development of management capacity and professional fund management.

Gyampo also stressed the importance of ensuring that wealth creation and ownership remain connected to local markets. The article notes that the success of the new structure will be assessed by whether it can revive and expand the brands, strengthen their competitiveness, preserve and create jobs, and deepen local supply chains.
