Peaches are considered the most profitable crop in Ukrainian horticulture

Among all fruit crops in Ukraine, peaches currently offer the highest profitability, outperforming even sweet cherries in terms of yield. 

This was stated by Vladimir Voevodin, a management manager at BASF, in a comment to the industry magazine “Gardening Ukrainian Style.” According to the expert, sweet cherries currently hold a solid second place in terms of profitability on the domestic market.

Despite the high financial prospects, Ukrainian farmers remain very cautious about establishing new orchards of stone fruit crops. Many entrepreneurs consider this business too risky due to unstable climatic conditions and the significant cost of cultivation. However, the expert is convinced that the main difficulties lie not in economic indicators, but in strict adherence to technology and proper process organization.

Voevodin drew particular attention to the labor shortage, which has become a critical factor for the industry. Due to a lack of seasonal workers, serious problems with harvesting have arisen, which even farms in neighboring Poland faced this year, where some of the fruit had to be left on the trees. Stone fruit orchards require delicate pruning and meticulous care, so the availability of qualified personnel is now a decisive factor when planning a new orchard business.
