Pfizer demands 6 billion zlotys from Poland over unmet vaccine contract
Pharmaceutical giant Pfizer has initiated legal proceedings against the Polish government at a court in Brussels, seeking around 6 billion zlotys in compensation for Poland’s refusal to accept ordered COVID-19 vaccine doses in 2022. This case is significant for state-pharma relations during the pandemic.
The dispute arose after the epidemiological situation improved and Warsaw chose not to take the ordered vaccine batches. As a result, Pfizer suffered financial losses and is demanding reimbursement through the courts. Meanwhile, the Polish authorities state that they are still pursuing peaceful negotiations and see no need to compensate the pharmaceutical corporation.
This development highlights the complexities between governments and pharmaceutical companies amid a global health crisis. Future outcomes may include legal rulings as well as potential settlements.
