Ryanair does not expect widespread flight cancellations this summer – The Guardian

Europe’s largest low-cost carrier, Ryanair, announced on May 18 that it does not anticipate widespread flight cancellations during the summer season and remains confident in the stability of air travel. The company noted that it does not expect a shortage of aviation fuel, despite market concerns over the escalating situation in the Middle East.

This was reported by The Guardian.

Despite the positive outlook, the airline warned that travelers booking tickets later this year may face higher fares.

“Demand remains high, but people are postponing bookings until later, so we don’t have the predictability we usually have for July–September. Bookings for the near future are going well, but if people wait too long, they’ll have to pay higher fares,” Soragan said.

Ryanair has also revised its forecast for summer airfare prices. While the company previously expected moderate fare increases during the peak season, it now predicts that prices will generally remain at last summer’s levels. The company explained that Europe currently has a good supply of jet fuel thanks to shipments from West Africa, Norway, and the U.S.

In addition, the airline reported record after-tax profits: €2.26 billion for the fiscal year ending in March. However, Ryanair has so far declined to release a financial forecast for 2027 due to risks related to fuel prices, environmental taxes, and rising wage costs.

Prior to this, Spirit Airlines, the largest U.S. low-cost carrier, announced it was shutting down.

Earlier, the U.S. warned that even if the Strait of Hormuz reopens, fuel prices will not drop immediately. Restoring supplies could take months, and uncertainty will continue to weigh on the market.
