Sony is buying the rights to more than 45,000 songs from RMG — Reuters

The American corporation Sony Music Group has signed a major deal with Recognition Music Group (RMG) to acquire the rights to a vast library of audio recordings.

Reuters reported this, citing informed sources.

According to confidential sources, the investment amounts to approximately $4 billion, making this one of the largest transactions in the market.

Under the terms of the agreement, Sony Music Group will gain full access to over 45,000 songs.

The list of assets includes world-famous hits by pop stars such as Beyoncé and Rihanna, as well as the creative legacy of the legendary rock band Fleetwood Mac.

Currently, leading record labels and publishers are engaged in a fierce battle for ownership of music catalogs.

This is driven by the high and stable revenues from streaming platforms, which regularly pay royalties for the use of popular content.

Media giants are increasingly viewing well-known songs as a key tool for producing films, documentaries, and TV series.

Streaming services use time-tested hits to enhance their premium offerings and attract new subscribers worldwide.

In addition to Sony, other major players are active in this market, including Warner Music Group, Spotify, and Amazon Music.

All of them are expanding their focus on music archives, seeing them as a reliable source of revenue in the digital age.

The acquisition of the RMG catalog will allow Sony Music to significantly strengthen its position in the entertainment industry.

Ownership of the rights to songs by top artists guarantees the company influence over the shaping of the cultural landscape and stable financial income for decades to come.
