The reasons why new potatoes are getting cheaper in Ukraine have been revealed
The price of new-crop potatoes in Ukraine continues to fall. This is due to increased supply from local farmers, who are selling their early harvest at lower prices than a week ago. Market participants expect prices to decline further in the near future.
Prices for new-crop potatoes in Ukraine continue to fall as larger volumes of produce enter the market. According to EastFruit analysts, producers are already selling early potatoes at lower prices than a week ago.
Currently, farms are offering 2026-harvest potatoes at 20–30 hryvnias per kilogram. On average, this is approximately 22% less than at the end of the previous week. The main reason for the price drop is an increase in supply from Ukrainian farmers. More and more farms are entering the market with new potatoes, creating additional competition among sellers.
At the same time, the price drop has not been sharp, as demand for early potatoes remains fairly strong. Buyers continue to show interest in fresh produce from the new season.
On average, new potatoes are currently available in Ukrainian supermarkets for approximately 30–45 hryvnias per kilogram, depending on the store, region, and product quality.
Packaged new potatoes or select varieties may cost more. However, as supplies from farmers continue to increase, retail prices may also gradually decline. According to market participants, the current price of potatoes is already about 10% lower than it was during the same period last year.
Most market participants expect the price of new-crop potatoes to continue falling in the coming weeks. This will be driven by a seasonal increase in harvesting and the arrival of new batches of produce on the market. However, the pace of the decline will depend on demand, weather conditions, and the volume of potatoes grown on farms, writes EastFruit.
