U.S. Grants TSMC an Annual License to Import Chipmaking Tools to China
TSMC has received an annual license allowing it to import U.S. chipmaking equipment to its manufacturing facility in Nanjing, ensuring continuous factory operations and uninterrupted product deliveries.
The license covers export-controlled tools and replaces earlier temporary exemptions that had allowed similar shipments. Other major Asian semiconductor producers operating on mature process nodes have received comparable approvals.
The Nanjing plant manufactures 16-nanometer and other mature-node chips, meaning it is not among the company’s most advanced production sites, but it remains an important part of TSMC’s global manufacturing network and contributes to overall revenue.
The approval helps reduce supply-chain uncertainty and supports operational stability at a time when competition in the global semiconductor industry continues to intensify.
