US Trade Representative Greer announces details of deals with China — CNBC

In the United States, Trade Representative Jamieson Greer said that Washington and Beijing had reached agreements on some goods that will be able to be sold on more favorable terms. The administration of President Donald Trump plans to release more detailed information on Monday, CNBC reports.

Goods outside sensitive categories

According to Greer, the agreements concern non-sensitive goods, including U.S. agricultural products and medical devices, as well as Chinese consumer goods. He said the sides had agreed on a number of such items.

The aim of the negotiations is to identify categories of goods whose trade could be insulated from future tariff measures or broader trade disputes. According to the U.S. trade representative, both countries seek to have certain goods supplied on more preferential terms and potentially exempt from new tariffs.

Details to be released on Monday

Greer did not specify which goods are covered by the agreements, how tariffs may change, or when the new terms will take effect. He said negotiations within the new U.S.-China Trade Council mechanism are focused exclusively on trade issues.

Restrictions on exports of advanced technologies related to U.S. national security are not part of these negotiations. Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping announced the creation of the Trade Council after a meeting in Beijing in May to regulate trade in non-sensitive goods.
