Ukrainian gas stations are beginning to restrict diesel sales due to trucks

A number of Ukrainian gas stations have begun imposing limits on the amount of diesel fuel that can be purchased by a single customer. The limits range from 50 to 100 liters per fill-up (specifically, the 100-liter limit applies at stations in the OKKO network). 

Such measures are most commonly applied at major gas stations along highways used by truck drivers and long-haul truckers. The introduction of these restrictions is due to the fact that retail prices at gas stations have turned out to be more favorable than wholesale prices at oil depots. This has forced large commercial consumers to purchase fuel directly at gas stations, creating the risk of rapid depletion of local supplies.

The key causes of the shortage are a decline in import volumes due to limited supply in Europe, the Russian Federation’s bulk purchases of resources, the shallowing of the Danube (which has complicated river logistics), as well as the limited availability of alternative supply routes from the Persian Gulf and Asia. Experts note that a complete halt in diesel sales is not expected, but sporadic local restrictions and temporary fuel shortages at individual stations may continue.

Prior to this, on July 29, 2026, Ukraine’s largest gas station chains updated their fuel prices. The average price of A-95 gasoline is about 82 UAH per liter, while diesel fuel has risen to 92.21 UAH per liter. The highest prices for gasoline and diesel are currently being recorded at the “Okko,” WOG, and Socar chains.

As of July 31, 2026, Ukraine’s largest gas station chains have updated their fuel prices. Diesel fuel saw the sharpest price increase, while the cost of gasoline and autogas remained unchanged at most chains.
