Egg prices have plummeted in Ukraine, but cigarettes have become more expensive

According to the State Statistics Service of Ukraine, consumer prices fell by 0.1% in June 2026 compared to May, but on a year-over-year basis, prices rose by 7.2%. In the first six months of this year, inflation reached 5.7%, while core inflation in June stood at 0.5% month-over-month and 8.1% compared to June 2025.

The main factor behind the June price decline was a 0.8% drop in the cost of food and non-alcoholic beverages, as well as a 2.3% drop in the cost of clothing and footwear. The price of eggs fell the most—by 27.8%—while vegetables, processed grain products, lard, fruits, sugar, rice, and poultry also declined in price by between 0.6% and 3.7%. At the same time, sunflower oil, fish, pasta, and bread became 1.0–1.7% more expensive, while tobacco products rose by 1.8%, leading to an overall 1.4% increase in the cost of alcohol and tobacco.

In the housing and utilities sector, prices rose by 0.9%, driven primarily by a 15.3% increase in water supply rates and a 14.6% increase in wastewater disposal rates. In the transportation sector, a slight overall increase of 0.2% was recorded, where the 3.4% increase in train ticket prices and the 1.2% increase in road transport fares were partially offset by a 1.6% decrease in prices for fuel and lubricants.

This is according to data from the State Statistics Service.

Prices for popular vegetables have changed in Ukraine. As of July 8, cucumbers saw the largest price increase, while tomatoes, on the contrary, became cheaper. The cost of the main vegetables used in borscht remains virtually unchanged, while the seasonal harvest is gradually affecting market prices.

Blueberries in Ukraine are currently significantly more expensive than they were at the height of the season. According to berry market expert Denys Mironov, the reason is simple: Ukrainian blueberries have not yet hit the market in large quantities, and imported products dominate stores and markets. Once the active harvest of domestic blueberries begins, prices are expected to drop significantly.

Young Ukrainian potatoes continue to get cheaper. In just over a week, their average price has halved—from 30 to 15 hryvnias per kilogram.

In early July, prices for seasonal fruits and berries changed in Ukraine. Strawberries and cherries saw the biggest price increases over the past week, while apples, bananas, oranges, and lemons are selling for nearly the same prices.
