Potato prices have plummeted in Ukraine: what happened
Ukrainian producers have lowered potato prices to 5–11 UAH/kg, which is on average 15% lower than at the end of the previous workweek.
According to EastFruit analysts as of March 26, 2026, the current price of the product is 62% lower compared to the same period last year. The main factor behind the price drop was the massive release of substandard produce onto the market, the quality of which is rapidly deteriorating in uninsulated storage facilities due to warm weather.
An additional factor putting pressure on prices is low trading activity in this segment. Farmers are trying to sell off their stocks as quickly as possible, leading to an oversupply amid subdued consumer demand. The situation in the vegetable market is unfolding in parallel with the implementation of the “National Cashback” program, under which Ukrainians are actively purchasing domestically produced food, and against the backdrop of preparations for spring fieldwork amid logistical challenges caused by the closure of the Hungarian border.
In 2025, Ukraine imported 123,600 tons of potatoes—more than double the previous year’s figure.
