Israeli Air Force Reserve Officer Charged with Leak for Betting Scheme on Polymarket
An Israeli Air Force reserve officer and an accomplice allegedly leaked secret military information about planned strikes on Iran and Yemen to profit from betting on the Polymarket platform. The Israeli prosecution has formally charged the individuals involved.
According to the investigation, the officer passed precise details about the timing of upcoming military operations to an acquaintance, enabling accurate bets. One documented case occurred in June 2025, when the officer shared information immediately after a closed briefing and advised increasing the stake. The same scheme was repeated in September during an operation in Yemen.
Their illicit activities earned them approximately $128,000. Nevertheless, regulatory authorities detected suspicious account activity, which ultimately led to uncovering the scheme.
The Israeli Air Force is a vital branch of Israel’s military, responsible for air defense and combat operations. Reservists are frequently called upon to support active units when urgent needs arise.
This case highlights a serious breach involving the misuse of confidential military information for personal financial gain, emphasizing the critical need for strict control and monitoring within military ranks.
As a result, Israeli authorities are likely to intensify oversight of service members' conduct regarding classified information, aiming to prevent similar offenses in the future.
