Google allows online gambling ads in UAE for licensed operators only

Google has enabled the promotion of online casinos, sports betting, and lotteries through Google Ads in the United Arab Emirates starting from March 10th, but only for operators licensed by the local regulator GCGRA. This marks a significant step towards establishing a legal gambling market in the UAE.

Currently, only two licensed operators exist in the country — the betting platform Play971 and lottery operator The Game LLC. However, analysts are skeptical that these new rules will immediately provide a significant advantage to licensed companies. Offshore operators have served UAE players for years, offering a broader range of products, including numerous slots, bonus programs, and VIP privileges without strict compliance requirements.

Many users already have accounts and established statuses on these offshore platforms, which may hinder their migration to licensed services. Despite a limited legal presence, the market estimates indicate that the gambling industry in the UAE still holds considerable potential.

Google, one of the world’s largest technology corporations, owns the widely used Google Ads platform for advertisers across various sectors, including gambling. Its support for licensed gambling operators is a key development for the sector’s growth in the region.

Thus, Google’s advertising allowance for licensed operators could foster the development of a transparent and regulated gambling market in the UAE, though offshore players currently maintain a strong foothold. Future legislative changes and regulatory approaches will influence how rapidly this transition will unfold.

In the near future, we can expect further expansion of licensed operators and greater regulatory oversight within the gaming segment in the UAE.
