US airlines waive ticket change fees due to Northeast weather — CNBC
US airlines have waived ticket change fees for flights from Friday through Sunday to airports in New York, Boston and other New England cities because of a nor’easter. Federal forecasters warned that it could bring strong winds, heavy rain and a risk of dangerous flooding to the US Northeast. CNBC reports.
Airport delays
As of Friday afternoon, nearly 600 departing and arriving flights had been delayed at New York’s LaGuardia Airport. This accounted for more than half of the airport’s schedule, according to FlightAware.
Dozens more flights were delayed at the largest airports in New England and the New York area. According to CNBC’s additional description, disruptions to Boston’s air traffic were increasing for Saturday. Airlines were assessing the likely path of the storm and its potential impact on flights over the weekend.

Conditions for passengers
American Airlines, United Airlines, Delta Air Lines and JetBlue Airways allowed passengers to change flights without paying a rebooking fee or an additional fare difference. This option applied to flights to a number of airports in the New York and Boston areas and smaller New England airports, provided passengers could reschedule their travel for any time through the middle of the following week.
During severe winter storms or hurricanes, airlines often cancel a significant share of flights to prevent aircraft, passengers and crews from ending up where they were not scheduled to be. Potential weekend disruptions came after an equipment failure on Monday had already forced carriers to cancel hundreds of flights to the New York and Philadelphia areas.
