Ghana Tourism Federation calls for review of $260 e-visa fee
The Ghana Tourism Federation (GHATOF) has called on the country’s government to review the electronic visa fee, which stands at $260. The organization believes that such a cost could weaken Ghana’s competitiveness as a tourist destination. MyJoyOnline reports.
Visa cost and processing times
GHATOF President Seth Ocran said on September 10 that Ghana’s e-visa fee significantly exceeds the rates in some neighboring countries. According to him, this puts the country at risk of losing its competitive position in the tourism market.
The federation also drew attention to delays in processing visa applications. The organization believes that the high e-visa price and lengthy application processing could deter potential visitors. GHATOF is asking the government to review certain provisions of the visa regime to make Ghana more attractive to international travelers.

Tourism Federation priorities
The recently sworn-in chairman of the federation’s council, HRM Drolor Bosso Adamtei I, also advocated a review of visa and immigration policy. He said that GHATOF should not only represent industry participants but also influence policymaking and create measurable value for its members.
The Executive Director of the Ghana Tourism Authority, represented by his deputy Gilbert Abeiku Aggrey, reported work on professionalizing the tourism and hospitality sector. According to him, mandatory training and accreditation are planned for this purpose. GHATOF leadership stated its intention to cooperate with the government and other stakeholders to raise standards, attract investment, and strengthen the competitiveness of Ghana’s tourism sector.
