Hoteliers call for AI to become part of Cyprus’ tourism strategy — Cyprus Mail

The Cyprus Hotel Association Pasyxe has called for artificial intelligence and digital transformation to become key components of the country’s tourism strategy. According to the association, technology can strengthen the tourism sector’s resilience, competitiveness and long-term growth, Cyprus Mail reports.

Use of technology in tourism

Pasyxe said that AI can be useful for collecting and analysing data, improving the visitor experience and reducing the energy footprint of tourism businesses. According to the association’s assessment, such solutions will help companies respond more effectively to changing traveller expectations, as they increasingly require digital services.

At the same time, the association stressed that the digital transition cannot be limited to individual investments by hotels and tourism businesses. The introduction of new technologies requires coordinated planning, stronger infrastructure, suitably qualified specialists and a modern system of incentives for companies.

Competition and future strategy

Pasyxe President Yanos Pantagzis said that Cyprus has an opportunity to rethink its tourism model and strengthen its position in competition with larger tourism markets. He linked the industry’s future development to the country’s ability to adapt, invest and make use of available opportunities.

The association’s Director General Christos Angelides noted that Cyprus’ tourism strategy must align with global trends and the needs of the modern traveller. According to Pasyxe, this issue is particularly important for an industry seeking to sustain demand amid uncertainty related to the prolonged crisis in the Middle East.

Events for World Tourism Day, hosted by El Salvador this year, are dedicated to the digital agenda and the role of artificial intelligence in renewing the tourism industry. These topics, as well as innovation and competitiveness, are set to be among the main themes of the 47th Cyprus Hotel Summit & HORECA Expo, which Pasyxe will hold on December 2 at the Hilton hotel in Nicosia.
