KNUST lecturer in Ghana receives third tourism award — MyJoyOnline
In Ghana, Dr. Benjamin Appiah Osei, a senior lecturer at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), received the Digital Tourism Icon 2026 award at the Ashanti Regional Tourism Awards on September 18, 2026. This is the third tourism award he has won over three consecutive years, MyJoyOnline reports.
Three awards in three years
In 2024, Osei was named Digital Tourism Icon at the Ashanti Regional Awards. In 2025, he received the Tourism Innovation & Technology Award in the individual category at the 25th National Tourism Awards, organized by the Ghana Tourism Authority.
KNUST noted that the 2025 national award was linked to his contribution to tourism technology, digital education in hospitality, and community training projects. Osei is a lecturer in KNUST's Department of Hospitality and Tourism Management and also serves as examinations officer and programme coordinator.

Education and tourism initiatives
Through the Tourism & Hospitality for Everyone (TOHFE) initiative, the lecturer seeks to make education in hospitality and tourism more accessible. On digital platforms, he publishes short materials about tourist destinations, attractions, hotels, cuisine, culture, tourism education, emerging technologies, and career opportunities in the sector.
His published research includes how international tourists use social media to plan trips to Ghana and make decisions about them. Through TOHFE, Osei has also organized tourism trips introducing participants to local destinations, food, culture, and communities. These initiatives include a food tour through the streets of Kumasi.
