In Kerala, Tulah wellness centre combines Ayurveda and modern medicine — The National (UAE)

In Kerala, the Tulah wellness centre offers personalised programmes combining Ayurvedic practices, consultations with modern medicine doctors, physiotherapy and dietetics. The National (UAE) reports on the experience of staying at the centre and the treatments available.

Before arrival, guests have a video consultation with a doctor from the facility, discussing medications, sleep, diet, lifestyle, and mental and physical wellbeing. Based on this conversation, a programme is created for the guest. The first day of the stay is dedicated to consultations with an Ayurvedic doctor, a modern medicine doctor, a dietitian and a physiotherapist, as well as examinations.

Examinations and treatments

The programme may include fasting blood tests, body composition assessment, a cardiopulmonary exercise test, bone mineral density measurement and a CT scan to determine the calcium score. After the stay is completed, doctors explain the test results and provide lifestyle advice.

Among the activities and treatments described in the article are clinical yoga, personal training, breathing exercises, padel sessions and hour-long sound sessions in a specially equipped Sonorium with gongs and instruments that imitate the sounds of thunder, rain, waves and a waterfall. The centre also provides Ayurvedic massages: udvartana with herbal powders, abhyanga with warm oils, and shirodhara, during which warm oil is continuously poured onto the forehead.

Food and cost

The menu at the Conservatory restaurant combines Indian, Asian, Mediterranean and Arabic cuisines. According to the publication, many fruits, vegetables and herbs are grown in the Healing Garden on the grounds of the 15-hectare complex. Dishes are served in controlled portions, and during meals guests leave their phones at the restaurant entrance.

After departure, guests can receive test results and a selection of recipes via an app. Wellness programmes start at $1,600, while the four-night clinical programme described by the publication costs approximately $8,000 excluding taxes. The review was conducted at the invitation of the wellness centre.
