Albanese says Cook approves social media restrictions — Channel NewsAsia
Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said after a meeting in California, United States, that Apple executive chairman Tim Cook described the Australian government's work on social media as world-leading. Channel NewsAsia reports, citing Reuters.
Meeting at Apple Park
Albanese met with Cook at Apple Park headquarters in California. After the talks, the Australian prime minister said that the Apple chief gave him a great deal of time and considers Australia's approach to regulating social media to be a world leader.
An Apple spokesperson, responding to a request regarding Albanese's statement, referred to Cook's post on X. In it, Cook said he was grateful for the opportunity to show the prime minister Apple's latest developments, including reliable and intuitive control tools designed to help protect children online.

Australia's measures
This month, Australia continued its course toward strengthening online safety by proposing to give social media users the opportunity to independently choose content in their feeds.
In December, the country became the first in the world to ban social media for children under the age of 16. According to Reuters, other governments also began introducing similar restrictions this year. In particular, the European Commission proposed banning social media for children under 13.
Cook recently stepped down as Apple chief executive officer after 15 years in the position.
