A 78-year-old soccer referee set a Guinness World Record
Welsh soccer referee Ken Wright has been inducted into the Guinness World Records for the longest refereeing career.
The 78-year-old referee has been officiating soccer matches since 1964. During that time, he has officiated more than 5,000 matches and has been active for 63 seasons.
Despite his age, Wright continues to take the field and officiate matches in the veterans’ league in Swansea.

The Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) has published updated rankings following the WTA 1000 tournament in Toronto. Ukraine’s top-ranked player, Elina Svitolina, remained in 9th place despite reaching the semifinals of the tournament. Marta Kostyuk also retained her 11th-place ranking.
Ukraine’s top-ranked player, Elina Svitolina, fell just short of the final at the WTA 1000 tournament in Toronto. In a tense semifinal, the Ukrainian lost in three sets to former world No. 1 Iga Swiatek of Poland.
As a reminder, on August 11, Elina Svitolina defeated Russia’s Katerina Aleksandrova in the quarterfinals of the WTA 1000 in Toronto and advanced to the semifinals. The Ukrainian lost the first set but staged a comeback to win the match in three sets—3-6, 6-0, 6-3.
Prior to that, Ukraine’s top-ranked player, Elina Svitolina, secured a victory in the round of 16 at the prestigious WTA 1000 tournament being held in Toronto.
