Alexandrova defeated world No. 1 Sabalenka at the tournament in Toronto
Russia's Katerina Aleksandrova defeated world No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka in the fourth round of the Canadian Open in Toronto. The match ended with a score of 7-6 (7-3), 4-6, 6-4 and lasted nearly two and a half hours, according to Al Jazeera English.
Alexandrova, seeded 16th, advanced to the quarterfinals. In the first set, Sabalenka broke serve early, but her opponent fought back, forced a tiebreak, and won it.
In the second set, the Belarusian took a 4-3 lead after a break and later evened the match at one set apiece. In the decisive set, Aleksandrova held onto her lead as the top-ranked player’s unforced errors began to mount.

With the score at 5-4, Sabalenka was serving to stay in the match. She saved two match points, but on the third, she committed a double fault, handing the victory to Aleksandrova. After the match, the tennis player said she tried to focus on every point and not think about the score.
In the quarterfinals, Aleksandrova will face Ukrainian Elina Svitolina. In her fourth-round match, Svitolina defeated eighth-seeded American Amanda Anisimova 6-2, 6-4.
