Australian Joanna Wietrzyk relinquishes points for Beijing victory — The Guardian
Australian athlete Joanna Wietrzyk apologized to participants, spectators, Hyrox organizers and the “people of China” after the competition in Beijing, China. She said she was retroactively withdrawing from the race and relinquishing the points earned for her victory.
The athlete’s apology
In an Instagram post, Wietrzyk said that she felt completely healthy at the start and had no reason to expect to become unwell. At the same time, she acknowledged that she should have withdrawn from the course, took responsibility for the decision to continue competing and apologized to everyone affected by the incident.
The athlete added that the incident reminded her that there are more important things in life than competition. She said she would take time to recover, reflect on the situation and care for herself and her family.

Hyrox competition in Beijing
As The Guardian reports, footage of the race went viral. The video showed that Wietrzyk continued competing and used shared equipment despite fecal contamination on her legs. The publication also notes that she holds a world record.
Hyrox is a fitness competition founded in Germany in 2017 and held in various countries around the world. Participants alternate one-kilometer running segments with intensive exercises at shared stations, including a rowing machine, sled push, burpees, medicine ball throws and sandbag lunges. Hyrox competitions made their debut in mainland China at the end of 2024.
