Bang Golf Begins Supplying Personalized Golf Balls in Korea
South Korean company Bang Golf began supplying the domestic market in May with premium God's Rod golf balls, whose parameters are selected according to the individual characteristics of a player's swing. As The Korea Herald reports, the product took about six years to develop.
The company analyzes data on a customer's swing and adjusts the ball's weight, compression, characteristics, and the size of the indentations on its surface. Bang Golf CEO Lee Hyeong-gyu said that standard golf equipment is mainly designed for elite players, while amateurs differ in their physical abilities and technique.
Selection based on swing data
Under Bang Golf's approach, a stronger player may be fitted with a heavier ball, while a person with less strength may receive a lighter one. The company also takes swing and ball-spin data into account.
The concept grew out of Bang Golf's business of personalized club fitting. According to Lee, the company varies clubhead weight, shaft stiffness and length, grip weight, striking-face thickness, and club loft angle. According to Bang Golf's estimate, combinations of these parameters provide about 20 million possible configurations.

Performance claims and price
Bang Golf claims that God's Rod can increase driving distance by up to 30 meters and reduce trajectory curvature caused by a slice or hook by about 29%. The company notes that these figures are based on its own research and customer feedback.
Lee also raised the issue of standardized requirements for golf balls. A ball that meets current regulations cannot weigh more than 45.93 grams, and its diameter must be at least 42.67 millimeters. In the Bang Golf chief's view, players who do not compete on tours should not be limited by such specifications.
A set of 12 God's Rod balls costs 360,000 won, or about $260. The company also offers gift vouchers: the recipient can provide data on their swing or undergo an analysis before the balls are made. Production currently takes about two weeks, and Bang Golf expects to reduce this period to one week as the number of orders grows.
