A British runner completed the Boston Marathon while five months pregnant
British track and field athlete Callie Haugher-Tucker completed the 2026 Boston Marathon while five months pregnant. She finished one of the world’s most prestigious marathons despite the significant physical strain.

Hauger-Taker’s performance in the U.S.
Just a year ago, she placed sixth in Boston, but this year her performance was more symbolic, showcasing her endurance and strength. Despite physiological changes, the 33-year-old athlete posted a respectable time of 2:43:58 and finished 65th among women, whereas in 2025 she finished sixth with a time of 2:22:38. At the time of the race, she was 22 weeks pregnant, and her son is expected to be born in late August.
The marathon itself proved to be challenging: as early as the fifth mile, she experienced a pinched nerve in her right gluteal muscle, forcing her to seek medical attention to resolve the issue; at the 11th mile, the spasm recurred and was alleviated through massage and a cooling gel. After that, the pain disappeared, and the athlete covered the second half of the distance faster than the first (1:20:48 vs. 1:23:10), demonstrating a so-called negative split.
Hauger-Taker’s Other Races
The decision to participate in the marathon was a well-considered one, as the British runner continued to compete even during her pregnancy. She won the Honolulu Marathon in December, not yet knowing about her condition, and in January she won in Houston with a time of 2:24:17, while in her eighth week. Doctors supported her participation, noting that for an experienced athlete, giving up training could be more stressful for the body. According to the runner herself, this race became even more important to her than medals, as it gave her new motivation and purpose.
The athlete’s husband and coach, Nick Hauger, also competed in the professional marathon and finished 34th with a time of 2:12:05; before the start, he supported his wife, expressing confidence in her strength. The Boston Marathon was Callie’s last major race before her maternity leave, and she will now focus on recovery and preparing for the birth of her child.
