Djokovic plans to compete in the 2028 Olympics

38-year-old Serbian tennis player Novak Djokovic has stated that he is considering competing in the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, despite having already achieved the Career Golden Slam.

This was reported with reference to the International Olympic Committee.

The Importance of the Olympics for Djokovic

For the Serbian tennis player, Los Angeles could mark his sixth Olympic Games. During the Laureus World Sports Awards ceremony, he noted that the opportunity to represent his country and wear the colors of the national flag is a unique experience that no other event can provide. Although two years until the start may seem like a long time at this stage of his journey, Djokovic views the U.S. as the ideal place to conclude his professional career under the Serbian flag.

The triumph at the 2024 Olympics in Paris was the most significant moment in Novak Djokovic’s life. Winning on the clay courts of Roland Garros at the age of 37 in the final against Carlos Alcaraz allowed him to finally claim the coveted gold and complete his career "Golden Slam." Djokovic himself admits that he has watched footage of that victorious match millions of times with his children and family. The gold medal is currently kept in a safe place by his father, who looks after all of his son’s trophies, but this particular award is considered his most significant achievement given the age at which it was won.

This served as redemption after 2021, when Djokovic was on the verge of winning the Golden Slam in a single season—a feat previously achieved only by Steffi Graf—but lost to Alexander Zverev in the semifinals.

Djokovic's Records

In June 2025, the Serbian became only the third man in history to win 100 titles on the ATP Tour, and in early 2026, he reached his record-breaking 38th Grand Slam final at the Australian Open. Currently, his main sporting goal remains his 25th Grand Slam title, which would make him the undisputed leader in the history of men’s and women’s tennis.

The 2026 Olympics became the cleanest in history—with no doping violations.

Recall that the number of Russians and Belarusians admitted to the 2026 Olympics has significantly decreased, according to Bidny.

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) admitted nine athletes from Russia to the 2026 Winter Olympics under a neutral status.
