The 2023 Wimbledon champion has been disqualified for four years

Markéta Vondroušová, the former world No. 6 and 2023 Wimbledon champion, has been suspended for four years for violating anti-doping rules.

According to a ruling by an independent tribunal, the tennis player was suspended for refusing to undergo an out-of-competition doping test. The incident occurred on December 3, 2025, when the athlete refused to allow a doping control officer to conduct testing at her home.

Under anti-doping rules, refusal to undergo testing is treated as a positive doping test result. The suspension will last until June 21, 2030.

Vondroušová attributed her actions to psychological issues, severe stress, and fears for her own safety. However, the tribunal found these arguments insufficient to justify her refusal to undergo testing.

The tennis player stated that she has never used banned substances, and all of her doping tests, including those conducted after the incident, were negative. She has the right to appeal the decision to the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
