Chepurny became European champion in an individual event for the first time
On August 22, Nazar Chepurnyi won his first individual gold medal at the European Artistic Gymnastics Championships, triumphing in his signature event—the vault. In the final, the Ukrainian outperformed his rivals and is now preparing for a showdown with former Ukrainian Ilya Kovtun in the parallel bars final.
In the vault final, Chepurnyi was the last of eight competitors to take the vault. After performing two vaults, the Ukrainian received a total score of 14.566 points, which allowed him to outpace his rivals and climb to the top step of the podium. In the qualifying round, Chepurnyi was in second place (14.466), trailing only Armenia’s Artur Davtyan.
This victory marked Chepurnyi’s first individual European Championship gold medal of his career. Prior to this, his achievements included bronze medals at the European Championships (2024, 2025) and World Championships (2023, 2025), as well as a team gold medal at the 2024 European Championships.
The Ukrainian’s competition schedule at Euro 2026 is not yet complete. Chepurnyi will also compete for medals in the parallel bars final.
A special showdown awaits Nazar in this final. Among his rivals in the battle for medals will be his former Ukrainian national teammate Illia Kovtun, who is now representing Croatia at this tournament.
