Fabio Capello backed the changes to the 2026 World Cup
Fabio Capello, former coach of the England national team, Real Madrid, and a number of Italian clubs, has spoken positively about the water breaks during matches at the 2026 World Cup. The legendary coach believes this innovation will benefit the tournament.
The famous Italian highlighted a positive aspect for coaching staffs. He also praised the announced extended halftime break in the 2026 World Cup final, which will last nearly 30 minutes.
“It all depends on how you look at it. For example, as a coach, I really like the water break during a half. The field is big; sometimes the players can’t hear you, but this gives you a chance to give them instructions. It’s really useful for coaches,” Capello believes.
At the same time, he was unable to give a definitive assessment of the half-hour break in the middle of the 2026 World Cup final. The Italian expert suspects that the players will have time to “cool off.” However, coaches will have more time to calmly give instructions and make adjustments.
“It could have a much greater impact on the game, and that could change the course of any match—especially the World Cup final,” Capello concluded.
As a reminder, Turin’s Juventus announced the signing of Turkish national team defender Zeki Çelik, who left Roma after his contract expired.
The Spanish national team became the first finalist of the 2026 World Cup, defeating France in the semifinal.
